PressCal Test Charts / 2021-11-26

This folder contains IT874R, IT875R, PressCalPT, PressCalPTS, PressCalC5T, PressCalC5TS, PressCalC6T, PressCalC6TS, PressCalF39T, PressCalF39TS, PressCalF51T, and PressCalF51TS test charts for making tone curves and/or ICC profiles. It also contains IDEAlliance and UGRA/FOGRA control strips.

The first 5 rows of the PressCalPT chart contain tone ramps for C, M, Y, K and CMY gray. The remaining rows (6 - 25) contain a characterization test chart, designed for profiling an offset press. This small chart is a subset of the IT8.7/4 test chart. By combining these elements into a single chart, it is possible to make TVI-based curves, gray-based (TR-015) curves, OPTIMAL curves, and ICC profiles, all from the same measurement data.

The first 5 rows of the PressCalC6T chart are the same as the PressCalPT chart. The remaining rows (6 - 20) are a 25-step CMYK gray axis ramp and a 7 x 7 x 7 array of samples derived from the GRACoL2013_CRPC6.icc reference profile. This chart is designed to make degree 6 optimal curves. It cannot be used to make ICC profiles.

The PressCalC5T charts are the same as the PressCalC6T charts, except rows (6 - 20) were derived from the SWOP2013C3_CRPC5.icc reference profile. This profile is based on the CGATS21-2-CRPC5.txt data set, used for publications and packaging.

The PressCalF39T charts are the same as the PressCalC6T charts, except rows (6 - 20) were derived from the ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc reference profile. This profile is based on the FOGRA39 data set, commonly used in Europe.

The PressCalF51T charts are the same as the PressCalC6T charts, except rows (6 - 20) were derived from the PSOcoated_v3.icc reference profile. This profile is based on the FOGRA51 data set, commonly used in Europe.

The PressCalPTS, PressCalC6TS, PressCalF39TS, and PressCalF51TS charts are the same as PressCalPT, PressCalC6T, PressCalF39T, and PressCalF51T except rows 7 and up are shuffled (randomized).

PDFs and .txf files are supplied for the i1iO 2, i1iO 3, i1iSis and i1Pro 3 instruments from X-Rite. The i1iO 2 charts are for the dual-scan mode, which measures M0, M1, M2 data in a single operation. The measured data should be saved in CxF3 format (.mxf or .rmxf suffix) for use with PressCal. PressCal has a setting to select the desired measurement condition.

Although these charts resemble those created by i1Profiler, they are quite different. The patches are not vector elements. They are a single CMYK image produced with custom software. This 8-bit image is dithered with random noise to produce the exact tone values, on average. The image was placed in an InDesign document, then exported as a PDF, like a normal production job. These special CMYK images are also provided as TIFFs for direct placement in your test forms.
